It Only Takes One Brick at a Time

This note was written only a few days after Laurens 22nd birthday. As I wrote it I had no idea what was going to happen only 4 months and 16 days later.

We had a family tradition of taking our kids to the mall on their birthday so they could pick out their Birthday gift. This particular year Lauren was in the midst of her first time in many years of being 60 days drug free and not far from 90 days, YAYYY!

Around this time managing cravings was getting quite overwhelming for Lauren. The post “Eyes Filled With Hope” explains how difficult cravings can be. I remember that day she took a long time choosing her gift. She chose something I didn’t expect, it wwas the Lego Kit of the London Bridge.

One of the things that really helped Lauren with her anxiety was very fine detailed motorskill tasks. She loved building legos with her brother, they did it often, coloring those super fine detailed coloring book. I think she felt it was a coping tool for her cravings and anxiety.

I watched her those many days meticulously piecing together the nearly 5000 pieces.

Thats what recovery can sometimes be, we need to take it one little piece at a time.
