PINK Glasses Makes Me Only See PINK

The old expression looking at the world through rose colored glasses may sound good but not to an addicted person.

It drove LaLa nuts, broke her heart and mine too see how people viewed her once they discovered she was a heroin addict.  Once they learned that they put on their rose colored addiction glasses. It made Lauren and every addict feel unseen and unheard. Lauren once said to me “Dad, these are not bad people we are just caught up in all this crap.” I could only weep in response, realizing I probably did that some where to her or others. When we do it limits us from truly being able to help. We can’t hear their story.

The post “Fit In” explains how painful that can be while “I Never Expected That” flips the coin and reveals how profound caring can be.

By the way LaLa’s favorite color was PINK!

For each week of this series I send out a follow-up email with more details about what was happenning for Lauren and our family on the occasion of writing the note. This week i touches on various treatments and how this new thrapist was a great help for LaLa.
